Guidelines for Grants

Primary Consideration
Our highest priority is in the area of education and self-development of underprivileged youth. The Barrios Truoses.Thst provides financial aid and assistance to organizations, institutions and individuals for these purpe Trust supports academic and vocational programs which enhance individual self-esteem and which promote understanding of diverse cultures.

Other Considerations
The Trust will make grants to organizations determined by the Internal Revenue Services to be 501 (c)(3) qualifying organizations. The Trust will also give financial aid for scholarships to deserving individuals who fall within the spirit of the mission of the Trust.The Trust makes modest grants to qualified programs and funds can be used for both operational expenses as well as capital acquisition. Grants are made on an annual basis and applicants can reapply for grants. The Trust is flexible in its decision-making process and considers grants to be non-precedent setting.

Grant Range
Our grants range between $1,000 and $25,000. The Trust prefers to avoid grants that provide more than one-half of an organization’s total budget in any twelve-month period; it usually expects evidence of a community and applicant commitment to a project through some local cost sharing.

Geographic Area Served
Grants are restricted to support programs of organizations and individuals in the Oakland Metropolitan area of northern California.
